Mark Hopkins

In recent years arrangement of existing works for wind ensembles has become a focus for my research and creative energy.  I studied orchestration under the tutelage of the late Lee Hyla while earning my DMA at New England Conservatory.  Here is a program and a video recording for the 2022 MUSCAN concert at Acadia University, featuring the Stadacona Band of the Royal Canadian Navy performing I Lost My Talk by John Estacio, based on the poem of the same name, freely transcribed for wind ensemble by Mark Hopkins:

Vision Chant by Cree composer and conductor Andrew Balfour, arranged for wind ensemble by Andrew Balfour and Mark Hopkins.  100% of the proceeds from the sale of the band version of Vision Chant are being donated to the Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association.

This arrangement has received numerous performances over the last year, including performances by the Edmonton Wind Sinfonia, the University of Toronto Wind Ensemble, and the Denis Wick Canadian Wind Orchestra.

This work will receive its premiere on February 28, 2016.

Wired and Wound by Derek Charke
This arrangement was created for a performance by saxophone soloist Tristan De Borba and the Acadia University Wind Ensemble, under the supervision of the Composer.
